Test

Most tote bags fold in on themselves by lunchtime. Set one down and it slumps; keys and cards disappear into the bottom seam. This one holds its shape, because the piping running through every seam is structural, not decorative.

What the construction actually does

• Piping on every seam — binds and reinforces the edges, which is exactly where cheap totes blow out first. It also keeps the bag standing open when you set it down.
• Quilted cotton shell — the quilting is padding. A laptop, a hardcover, a water bottle all take knocks that a single layer of canvas passes straight through.
• 100% cotton, no synthetic coating — it breathes, so nothing inside sits in trapped damp, and it washes cold instead of degrading.

Care

Cold machine wash, air dry, reshape while damp. It softens with each wash rather than wearing out. If it tears, it can be patched and restitched — no specialist needed.

Honest limits

This is untreated cotton. A light shower is fine; a downpour is not. If you want water resistance, a wax bar over the outer shell handles it, at the cost of the washability above.
